I make just one general point here about Trump judicial appointees. Although the number of Trump appointments to federal judgeships is somewhat remarkable in and of itself, even more remarkable is the number of appellate judges he appointed. Although it is below the radar of most of the general public, in four years, Trump appointed just one less judge to the Circuit Courts of Appeals than did Obama in eight years. That is where the bulk of federal law is shaped, except for the cases of the highest visibility. And, of course, as to those cases, the number of Trump lifetime appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court in just four years is staggering, and the relative youth of most of those appointments which will likely endure 30 years or more is tremendously disheartening. I join those who very appreciated Justice Ginsburg as a jurist, but blame her ego in failing to see the handwriting on the wall as she refused to step down when Obama could have appointed her successor.
